In
vitro fertilisation (IVF) Treatment
IVF
Treatment is by far the most common and popular High tech fertility treatment
and has been accounted for over 99 % of all the suggested reproductive
technology procedures.
Is
in vitro fertilization for you?
In Vitro
Fertilization (IVF) Treatment can help you to conceive a baby if you are having
ovulation problems or blockage in fallopian tubes; or if your partner is
encountering a low sperm count; or if other methods have proved unsuccessful.
Treatment:
What to expect
Before
the beginning of the menstrual cycle, you will intake a fertility drug in order
to stimulate the ovaries which develop several mature eggs for the purpose of
fertilization. Generally, you release only one egg a month. You may also have
to take synthetic hormone known as lupron to keep your body from releasing the
eggs too early.
You will
also have to visit your doctor so that you can get you blood hormone level
checked and take ultrasound recordings of your ovaries in order to see the
process when your eggs are mature. After the eggs get mature, your doctor will
give you anesthetic and will remove the eggs from ovaries with the help of
injecting a needle via your vaginal wall using ultrasound as guiding map. Then these
eggs are combined with your partner’s sperms in laboratory.
After
around two to five days, the fertilized eggs forms a ball of cells called as
embryo. These embryos are placed into your uterus with the help of a thin
catheter through your cervix. If there are extra embryos get froze if this
cycle does not succeed.
However,
if the treatment works and the cycles succeed, then an embryo will get implant
uterine and it will grow into a baby continuously with time. In only 30 % of In
Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Treatment pregnancies, more than one embryo gets
implanted and woman gives birth. You can easily run a pregnancy test about two
weeks after the embryo is placed in your uterus.
Length
of treatment
In Vitro
Fertilization (IVF) Treatment takes about 4 to 6 weeks to
complete one cycle. One has to wait for few weeks for the eggs to mature. Then
you along with your partner will have to spend half a day at doctor’s clinic
getting your eggs retrieved & fertilized. You will have to visit the doctor
again in 2 – 5 days later to have the eggs placed into your uterus and then you
would be able to go home the same day.
