An operation called a liver transplant involves removing the sick liver and replacing it with a healthy
liver. We do live-related donor liver transplants as well as cadaver donor
liver transplants for both adults and children. Sahyadri Hospitals established
a cutting-edge Center for Organ Transplantation in Pune with the sole purpose
of making transplants inexpensive and available to everyone. It quickly gained
a reputation as one of Western India's most dependable liver transplant
centres.
Marlin’s Centers for Liver Transplant and Biliary Sciences are the most prestigious
centres in India. Our hospitals offer treatment for liver, pancreas, and
biliary system. A liver transplant, also called a hepatic transplant, is a
surgical process to replace an unhealthy liver. A liver that no longer
functions properly is replaced with a whole or partial healthy liver.
Our
multidisciplinary team of medical professionals includes surgeons,
intensivists, transplant hepatologists, anaesthetists, radiologists,
transfusion medicine experts, endocrinologists, dieticians, clinical
psychologists, and counsellors. Collectively they have more than 25 years of
experience.

As
the liver may regenerate, it is possible to transplant a portion of liver from
a living donor. The donor’s and recipient's livers both regenerate in 4 to 8
weeks.
Deceased
Donor:
Liver
transplants from deceased donors are performed on patients who have passed away
due to cardiac arrest or brain death.
·
Who can be a donor?
Let
me describe two very important things you must have to know regarding liver
transplants in India.
·
-Living donor for a liver
transplant must be a nearby relative characterized as a ‘close relative’ in
the THO Act. This is characterized as the life partner, guardians, kin,
grandparents, and children of the patients. The rule is donor should be either
from a lineage of the father side or mother side.
·
- The following criteria that the
donor has to fulfill for liver transplant surgery:

--His/her age should be between
18 and 55 years.
·
--The weight has to be between 50
to 85kg.
·
--He/she has to be a family
member only.
·
--Should match the recipient's
blood group.
·
--The liver and other body organs
should function well.
·
--A sufficient volume of the
liver should be available for the recipient when half of the liver of the donor
is used.
·
--The donor's body mass index
(BMI) must be under 35.
- What
conditions could make someone ineligible to donate?
- Alcoholism
- HIV
Infection
- Drug
addicts

Infections

recent cancer
- Patients
with lung or heart problems
- Who are
being treated for psychiatric illness
